Frequently Asked Questions
What is Colonic Hydrotherapy?
Colonic Hydrotherapy is a gentle treatment that uses warm, filtered water to help cleanse the colon and support normal bowel function. Many clients choose treatment to help them feel lighter, less bloated and more comfortable in their digestive health.
Do I need to drink water before my appointment?
Yes. Being well hydrated is extremely important for a successful treatment.
I recommend drinking at least 1 litre of water prior to your appointment. Proper hydration helps support effective evacuation during the session and can significantly improve your treatment experience.
Please note that other drinks do not replace water for hydration purposes. For the best results, plain water is essential.
I'm not very good at drinking water. Can I still have a treatment?
Hydration plays a key role in the effectiveness of colonic hydrotherapy. If you're not adequately hydrated before your appointment, the treatment may result in little to no evacuation.
To get the maximum benefit from your session, it's important to increase your water intake before attending your appointment. If you have concerns about hydration or preparation, please don't hesitate to get in touch before your visit.
Â
I'm embarrassed about coming for a colonic. What should I expect?
There is absolutely no need to feel embarrassed. Many clients feel nervous before their first appointment, and that's completely normal.
Everything is explained in detail during your consultation, and your comfort, dignity, and privacy are my top priorities throughout the entire process. You will be provided with disposable underwear and a gown, and I will guide you through each step of the treatment so you always know what to expect.
If you have any concerns or questions at any stage, please feel comfortable discussing them with me. My goal is to ensure you feel relaxed, supported, and completely at ease during your visit.
Â
Is colonic hydrotherapy suitable for everyone?
Most people can safely enjoy colonic hydrotherapy; however, there are certain medical conditions that may make treatment unsuitable. A full consultation and health questionnaire will be completed before treatment to ensure it is safe and appropriate for you.
If you have any existing health conditions or are unsure whether treatment is right for you, please contact me before booking.
Â
What should I wear to my appointment?
Comfortable clothing is recommended. During the treatment, you will be provided with disposable underwear and a gown to ensure your privacy and comfort at all times.
Do you offer consultations before booking?
Absolutely. If you would like to discuss the treatment, preparation, suitability, or any concerns before booking, please feel free to contact me. I'm always happy to answer questions and help you feel confident about your appointment.
Â
How many treatments will I need?
Every client is different and treatment recommendations are always tailored to your individual goals and health history.
As a general guide:
-
A single treatment is considered maintenance.
-
A course of 3–6 treatments is often recommended when starting out.
-
Maintenance treatments may then be booked every few months if desired.
Your treatment plan will be discussed during your consultation.
Â
Will I need to keep having colonics?
Not necessarily. Some clients choose to have occasional maintenance treatments, while others prefer a course of treatments followed by lifestyle and dietary changes to support long-term digestive health.
The aim is always to support your overall wellbeing rather than create dependence on treatment.
Â
Does it hurt?
No. Colonic Hydrotherapy should not be painful.
Most clients describe the sensation as:
-
Feeling like they need to open their bowels
-
Mild pressure
-
Occasional gentle cramping as gas or waste moves through the colon
The treatment is designed to be as comfortable and relaxing as possible.
Â
Can men have Colonic Hydrotherapy?
Absolutely.
Many men choose Colonic Hydrotherapy and benefit from treatment for bloating, digestive discomfort and general gut health support.
Â
Can I have a colonic whilst on my period?
Yes, in most cases you can.
Some clients actually find treatment helps reduce feelings of bloating and discomfort during their menstrual cycle. If you have particularly heavy periods or concerns, please get in touch before your appointment.
Â
Will I have diarrhoea or a runny tummy afterwards?
Not usually.
After treatment, you may need to use the toilet again later in the day, but this is generally similar to having a normal bowel movement rather than experiencing diarrhoea.
Everyone responds differently, which is why aftercare advice is provided following your treatment.
Â
Can I carry on with my day afterwards?
Most clients can return to normal daily activities.
For the remainder of the day, it is recommended that you:
-
Drink plenty of water
-
Eat nourishing foods
-
Avoid strenuous exercise
-
Keep warm
-
Allow yourself time to rest if needed
Â
How long does the treatment take?
The treatment itself lasts approximately 45 minutes.
Additional time is allowed for:
-
Consultation (if required)
-
Changing and preparation
-
Time to use the bathroom after treatment
Please allow around 60–90 minutes for your appointment.
Â
Does coffee make you poop?
For many people, yes!
Coffee can stimulate the digestive system and increase bowel activity, which is why some people find they need the toilet shortly after drinking it.
Â
Can Colonic Hydrotherapy help with gas and bloating?
Many clients report feeling less bloated and more comfortable after treatment.
Colonic Hydrotherapy may help:
-
Reduce feelings of fullness
-
Support normal bowel movements
-
Relieve trapped wind and gas
-
Improve overall digestive comfort
Results vary from person to person and are often best supported by healthy dietary and lifestyle habits.
Â
What results can I expect?
Results vary depending on the individual and their health goals.
Many clients report:
-
Reduced bloating
-
Feeling lighter and more comfortable
-
Improved bowel regularity
-
Increased awareness of digestive health
The best results are typically achieved when treatment is combined with positive lifestyle, hydration and dietary changes.
